MDF
|
| |
MDF is one of four main categories of wood based panels - laminated boards,
particle boards, fiber boards and oriental strand boards. Medium Density
Fiberboard (MDF) is made by steaming softwood chippings of birch and larch until
they are reduced to fine wood fibers, It is a composite wood product similar to
particleboard. These are then bonded together with resin and pressed into boards
in a similar way to conventional chipboard. MDF is appropriate for many
applications, from cabinetry to molding, because it is smooth, uniform, and
won't warp. |

MDF has many advantages over plank wood, particleboard, or high density
fiberboard. It's very smooth because the wood fibers used in its manufacture are
uniform and fine. Builders use MDF in many capacities, such as in furniture,
shelving, laminate flooring, decorative molding, and doors. Some people prefer
using MDF over regular lumber because it has a lower impact on the environment.
MDF is solely made from waste products, the leftover scraps that would otherwise
be dumped in a landfill. MDF is easier to machine than natural wood and can be
laminated and painted to produce almost any board finish , MDF furniture might
look like wood but it is essentially fake furniture, a cheap and temporary way
of having some good-looking furniture and it is easily shaped into almost any
form and is commonly available in lengths up to 18 feet and therefore an
excellent material for finished interior moldings. MDF has a good bonding
strength and resistance to compression. MDF also has a mild reaction to
moisture, meaning it won't warp or swell in high-humidity applications like a
bathroom cabinet. |

MDF can be sorted several types such as Standard MDF 、 MR MDF ,Melamine MDF, MDF
may be easily painted, cut, Standard MDF can be machined and cleanly drilled
without splintering or chipping. Standard MDF can be used for a variety of
applications such as shelving, partitioning, paneling and furniture
manufacturing. There are some details about the Standard MDF. Length: 2440, 2745
& 3660 mm, Width: 1220 mm, Thickness: 5, 9, 18, 36 mm. |

Moisture Resistant MDF has a special water-resistant resin added to the panel. MDF can absorb moisture, and when it does it expands often ruining the surface
of the "wood". This adds moisture resistant properties to the panel and
increases dimensional stability. MR MDF is suitable for drawer and cabinet
carcasses for kitchens, bathrooms and laundries as well as furniture in tropical
areas. |

Melamine MDF or melamine coated MDF are MDF panels overlaid with low pressure
melamine that provide a pre-finished hard surface that is ready to install, easy
to maintain, stain and scratch resistant. Melamine MDF boards are suitable for
kitchen cupboards, built-ins, shelving, cabinets and many vertical surfacing
applications.
The raw wood material can be in almost any form or specie and in almost any
mixture such as low grade wood specie, branches, small diameter trees, hardwood,
softwood, mill waste and forestry waste chips. |

It is an environmentally friendly product as it uses all the wood of the tree -
even the bark is used to run the steaming process! MDF is a type of fiberboard
made from wood or other lignocelluloses materials, refined into fibers and
reconstituted with a resin binder (glue) carried out at elevated temperatures.
